About the Program

We know that children of all ages benefit from our family-style atmosphere. We are thrilled to be bringing our classes to the Atria Senior Living Center and Lenox Hill Senior Center, where children and their families will experience Music Together classes with the ‘mature’ population in our community.  Along with you and your child, elderly participants will observe and join in throughout the class.  They are included in Hello and Goodbye songs; they are given instruments to use; they are given opportunities to participate in improvisational activities if they so desire; they are encouraged to share their musical memories and experiences.  We look forward to witnessing the wonderful benefits afforded those who attend these very special classes.

FAQs

How is this class different from your regular mixed-age classes? This class looks very much like our regular mixed-age classes.  The activities and curriculum are identical to what you will find in mixed-ages.  The difference is that we're bringing the classes to a new setting; one with elders and their caregivers.  Elders are full class participants, and are actively involved in the class activities as their physical capabilities permit.  The class becomes a true community music-making experience, one filled with people of all ages, from birth to 99 - and beyond!

Music Development and Research

Music Together centers across the country have been offering intergenerational classes for a number of years, to great success.  There is an inherent specialness in making music with your child, dancing with a new elderly friend, and creating musical memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.  We know that music is healing for all, and it is particularly therapeutic for the older generation.
